Privacy

Your privacy, in plain language.

What we collect, why, who helps us, and the choices you have.

Last updated: October 16, 2026

The short version. We collect only what we need to run Rigby. Your conversations are encrypted, are never shared with your school or institution, and you can delete them, or your whole account, whenever you like.

What we collect

  • Account details: your first name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name, email and profile photo from Google. We never see your password.
  • Your conversations: the messages you send Rigby, and its replies, plus any files you attach in a chat. They are stored encrypted.
  • Things you create: to-do items and preferences you set in the app.
  • Security records: when you sign in or change account details we keep a brief log with the type of event, the time, your browser type and a shortened network address (the last part of your IP address is removed). We keep these logs for up to 30 days.
  • Guest sessions: if you try the guest demo, we create a temporary account that is removed shortly after the session ends.

How we use it

  • To run Rigby: to sign you in, to let Rigby reply and remember your conversation, and to show your history back to you.
  • To keep accounts safe and prevent abuse, such as blocking repeated sign-in attempts.
  • To send you the service emails you need: confirming your email address, resetting your password, a welcome message, a notice when your password changes, and a confirmation if you delete your account.
  • To understand, in aggregate and without your messages, how the service is used, so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your conversations for advertising.

Who handles your data for us

We use a small number of service providers, who process data only to provide their service to us:

  • A sign-in provider: handles account sign-in and email verification.
  • A cloud hosting provider: runs the app and its database on servers in the United States.
  • A third-party AI provider: to generate Rigby's replies, the text of your messages (and, in a conversation, possibly your first name and any images you attach) is sent to this provider.
  • An email delivery provider: sends our service emails, so it receives your email address and first name. This provider is based in the European Union.
  • A website hosting provider: serves this website.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety. Schools and students can ask us for the current list of named providers at hello@myemotionalsupportbot.com.

Your school or institution

If you joined Rigby through a school pilot, the school can see only that you are enrolled, the dates you were active, and combined, anonymized usage trends. It cannot see your conversations. If you joined on your own, no school receives anything about you.

How long we keep it

  • Conversations, tasks and your profile are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
  • Security logs are kept for up to 30 days, then removed.
  • Guest sessions are deleted shortly after they end.

Your choices

  • See or download your data: use "export my data" in your profile.
  • Delete things: you can delete a conversation, delete all your data, or delete your whole account from your profile. Deleting your account removes your conversations and profile and removes your sign-in record, and we email you to confirm.
  • Questions or requests: email hello@myemotionalsupportbot.com.

Keeping it safe

Conversations are encrypted in storage, connections use HTTPS, and sign-in is handled by a dedicated provider. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can reach the data and keep only what we need.

Who Rigby is for

Rigby is built for college students and is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Important: Rigby is not a crisis service

Rigby is a supportive companion, not a therapist or a medical service, and it cannot respond to emergencies. If you or someone you know is in danger or in crisis, call or text 988 (U.S.) or call 911.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date above and, where the change affects you, tell you in the app or by email.
